ABOUT

ARTIST STATEMENT

My work is rooted in awe of the natural environment around me. I create paintings and sculptures inspired by the rugged beauty of my native Irish countryside and its subtle innate qualities, forming a body of work that is, above all, a poetic reflection of my connection with nature.

My intuitive process begins with being outside and collecting textures, colours, and compositions through photographs and objects. Using resin as my primary medium, I amalgamate these elements into an imaginary place, firmly drawing upon my emotional response to real landscapes. In this way, my practice engages in a perpetual dialogue between the tangible and the abstract.

By extensively layering resin in varying opacities, I create works that are as sculptural as they are painterly. With this nontraditional media and an intuitive and emotional process, I form a contemporary approach to the traditional landscape genre, yielding evocative interpretations of the natural Irish environment. The layered resin has natural depth and movement, mirroring the subtitles, intricacies, and undulating nature of land, water, and air. These layers may be navigated meditatively and playfully, like a meandering walk in nature. The qualities in my work allows for viewers to create their own narrative.

Through each painting and sculpture, my intention is to transport audiences to a dimension where time stands still and the beauty of the natural world reigns supreme, enveloping the viewer. My work aims to serve as a window into moments of individual contemplation and introspection, offering a space for engagement with the self and the environment.
